Collapse ▲The new year brings new opportunities to offer exciting, educational workshops. To kick things off, N.C. Cooperative Extension – Bladen County Center is offering two events: 2024 Better Bladen Series and Essential Homesteading Skills.
For 2024, the Better Bladen Series will include four workshops covering the following topics: using a multicooker (most people know a multicooker by the brand name – InstantPot), backyard wildlife, plant propagation, and understanding meat cuts. To learn more or to register, you can visit the 2024 Better Bladen Series site or stop by our office. The registration fee for each workshop is $10 per person and can be paid by cash, check, or credit card through Eventbrite.
In recent years, homesteading has exploded in popularity. Simply, homesteading is an independent lifestyle that requires a wide range of skills. Essential homesteading skills include gardening, composting, food preservation, animal husbandry, carpentry, sewing, and basic mechanical repair. To meet the growing demands for information on homesteading and the required skills, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Bladen County Center is offering a one-day workshop on Saturday, March 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The workshop will include a general session that covers present use value, resources, soil sampling, enterprise budgets, record keeping, and marketing for the homesteader. After the general session, there will be breakout sessions in the morning and afternoon. Participants can choose one of three tracks: Food Preparation, Livestock and Poultry, or Plants. Learn more or register via Eventbrite. The registration is $25 per person (includes lunch and materials/handouts) and can be paid by cash, check, or credit card through Eventbrite.
If you are interested in registering for either of these events, there are two ways to register: in person at our office or online through Eventbrite. We are happy to help you with the registration process! For more information or questions, please call 910-862-4591.
